Dar es Salaam. The National
Electoral Commission is scheduled to start voters’ registration through
Biometric Voters Registry (BVR) in Njombe Region next Monday using the
250 BVR kits that were used during the pilot study in three
constituencies last year.
The NEC chairman, Mr Justice (rtd) Damian Lubuva,
told The Citizen that the electoral body is determined to start the
massive registration as scheduled. He said NEC has trained lead
officials in four regions of Mtwara, Lindi, Ruvuma and Njombe.
“The exercise will start next Monday with the 250
BVR kits which were used in the pilot registration in December,” he said
in an interview.

He said that the electoral body was still waiting
for 7,750 sets from the contracted supplier. But he maintained that he
is optimistic his office would beat the deadline for the countrywide
registration.
“We are waiting for the kits to be delivered. The
supplier is currently working on the shortfalls observed during the
trial run that involved 250 BRVs,” he said.
