The 2015 edition of the Standard Chartered Road to Anfield has attracted 60 teams who will battle for the prime slot to visit one of the iconic stadiums in Europe. In a newly expanded format, teams from regional countries Uganda and Tanzania will be duly represented.
All teams are expected to converge at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies(KSMS) on February 21-22 to slug it out for the ticket to Liverpool Football Club, England.
At the launch of the third edition of the event, Standard Chartered Limited CEO Lamin Manjang expressed optimism on the commitment and trust between the two brands in giving back to the community. “In light of this,we have brought together clients, media and the Standard Chartered Group Staff in an expanded scope.
Uganda and Tanzania will also be incorporated in 2015 to give mileage to the programme.’’ said Manjang. Winners of the three countries will come together to battle for the rights to represent East Africa in Liverpool on May 8. Manjang added that the challenge will make for great atmosphere as it will bring to the fore strong teams.
“This will be exciting and to our clients, this will be an opportunity to experience something fresh.” Chief Information Officer Peter Gitau on his part encouraged full participation from the teams.’’Indeed this will be an opportunity to help build the brand and so we are encouraged to shine’’.
Six media teams will be represented in the frame of Mediamax Limited, Radio Africa Group, Royal Media Services, Nation Media Group, KBC and defending champions Standard Group. The 60 teams will be pooled into eight groups with each side assembling five players and two reserves. The overall winner will also receive professional training from the club legends and coaches.
