In Summary
“When you go to rural areas, elders ask whether
there are no people in our party to react to arguments and challenges
brought by Opposition politicians. This is the time when every NRM
supporter and leader must wake up in total activism for the party.”
Mbarara, Wednesday. The Minister for Presidency
and Kampala has called for patriotism among NRM party leaders so as to
silence the growing cynicism the Opposition has about government
achievements.
Mr Frank Tumwebaze said a lot of negative things
are said by the Opposition against the ruling party and there is a need
for a strong voice in the party to counter them.
“I feel like leaving the ministerial posts and
taking on activism for the NRM party. A lot of negative things
discrediting the party and government have been said but there is less
response to counter this negativity, you have just left activism to a
few individuals.” Mr Tumwebaze said in Mbarara District at the weekend.
He was officiating at the district’s belated NRM 29th anniversary celebrations in Nyakayojo Division, Mbarara municipality.
He added: “When you go to rural areas, elders ask
whether there are no people in our party to react to arguments and
challenges brought by Opposition politicians. This is the time when
every NRM supporter and leader must wake up in total activism for the
party.”
The minister also asked resident district
commissioners and chief administrative officers to curb the rising cases
of stealing government land.
He said it is very expensive for government to
undertake investment in several areas because most of its land has been
encroached on.
Ruling party supporters are embroiled in a
leadership wrangle that threatened to split the party. Some have
publicly declared support for former premier Amama Mbabazi and others
for President Museveni. (NMG)
